On Philippe
Having started out as a fashion photographer whilst at University, and having built his career in f.m.c.g with leading American, German and British blue chip companies, Philippe became recognised as a founding thinker of contemporary Brand Architecture by publishing the first academic model in the JBM Vol1#5 in 1994 and others soon followed.
After practicing in London and New York he returned to his mother’s city of Paris to investigate the complete luxury industry from fashion to time-pieces, jewellery, hotels and more in order to understand why the French have had such a big influence in this field. This he did in the guise of video journalist and brand advisor for leading magazines from Spoon to Vogue, L’Officiel, Some/things magazine as well as Art Review, UK as well as through his personal network with CEO’s, fashion designers and the like. At that time no books were available in the field and most existing knowledge was kept as family secrets.
As such, Philippe managed to estyablish himself as one of the world’s first researchers of Luxury Branding and published his first book exclusively with The Luxury Society in 2009 for luxury practitioners only. His follow-up book, “Haute ‘Luxury’ Branding co-authored by Caroline Taylor in 2020 has been listed as a top 10 Branding Book by The Branding Journal, New York every year since its’ release. He has worked mostly as a Problem-Solution Brand Strategic Advisor to CEO’s across the luxury spectrum from High Jewellery, Haute Horlogerie and Hotels through to Fashion, Leather goods, Fragrance, Skin care, Hair Care, Make-up and other related industries.
His clients are not only the Designers and Maisons but also, increasingly, Brand Content Agencies and PR agencies with a need for this strategic knowledge to assist their clients to compete more effectively online and across borders. He is also Visiting Professor of Branding for MBA, MIM, MBC, MSc and other business degree programs at leading private Business Schools in France, notably NEOMA, EFAP, INSEEC, Istituto Marangoni, Rennes School of Business, Toulouse Business School, Burgundy School of Business, ICART and previously EDHEC, HEC, the IFM, IFA Paris, American Business College and other leading European Business Schools in India, China, Latvia, Greece, Serbia and Armenia.
